As Commanding Officer of Robotech Space Fortress, SDF-1, Captain Gloval has the awesome responsibility of deciphering the inner workings of a complex alien vessel while dealing with the problems of breaking in a crew of raw recruits. To further his frustrations the veteran Captain is faced with defending the Earth against an aggravated attack by an alien armada of powerful interstellar spaceships. He approaches his assignment on the SDF-1 with the characteristic determination of a war weary soldier. When the reality of potential annihilation at the hands of the Zentraedi forces him to assume the role of combat leader, his old fighting spirit comes back with a vengeance. He matches wits and strategy with the leaders of a vast alien force bred for countless generations to be "perfect fighting machines". His common sense and "never-give-up" attitude define the essence of the Robotech Defense Force.
