Max Sterling is one of the many young men from Macross City who enlist in the Robotech Defense Force after his life is disrupted by the interstellar war with the Zentraedi. Distinguishing himself in his early training period, he is assigned to be part of Rick Hunter's newly-formed combat squad. Max easily becomes the most promising pilot of a new generation of Robotech Aces. His technique is pure perfection when it comes to flying and fighting in the Veritech Fighter. He is quiet person who prefers to concentrate on his career as a Veritech Pilot; not romance. All that changes when Max meets up with a micronized Zentraedi Ace who has infiltrated the SDF-1 in order to assassinate Max. The plot backfires as the female Zentraedi, Miriya, and no-nonsense Max fall in love. Theirs is the first marriage in space and the first between a human and a Zentraedi. Their child becomes one of the reconstructed Earth's main heroes.
