Khyron is a glory-hungry opportunist who will stop at nothing to achieve his ends. He views the entire quest for the SDF-1 as a massive waste of time, and grows to hate the Micronians (humans) who have gained control of the Robotech Space Battle Fortress. He disobeys orders and spends much of his time contemplating ways to destroy the battle fortress and pursue interplanetary conquest. Khyron shows his contempt for the Zentraedi way of life by becoming extremely friendly with Azonia, a high-ranking female Zentraedi Commander. This goes against all Zentraedi logic, which forbids interpersonal relationships between men and women. Eventually, Khyron deserts his post, planning to return after the fighting is over to prey on the weakened victor and possibly capture the secrets of Robotech!

This passage suggests that Khyron became "friendly" with Azonia before the final battle of the First Robotech War against Dolza's fleet (episode 27, "Force of Arms"). Not so; during the battles between the Zentraedi and the humans on Earth (episodes 16-20), Khyron was a thorn in Azonia's side, constantly undermining her authority as leader of the campaign against the Micronians to her endless frustration. When Breetai resumed command of the campaign and was forced to switch sides and fight against Dolza's main fleet, Azonia fought alongside Breetai and the crew of the SDF-1, while Khyron took off to parts unknown. Indeed, there was no evidence of a relationship between Khyron and Azonia until two years later, when Khyron reemerged to wreak havoc on the survivors of planet Earth, with Azonia mysteriously by his side.
