Lynn Minmei, darling of crew and refugees living aboard the SDF-1, has natural good looks and girlish charms which do not go overlooked on the gigantic Space Battle Fortress. She awaits the historic launch of the famed Robotech ship SDF-1, at the home of her aunt and uncle. Thanks to a sneak attack by the Zentraedi and the inexperience of the crew of the SDF-1, Lynn Minmei becomes one of almost 70,000 refugees who must live on the SDF-1 on its 30-month journey back to Earth. During the voyage back, Lynn competes in a beauty contest and becomes "Miss Macross". Minmei flirtateously tries to uplift the morale of the civilians and crew forced to live on the gigantic spaceship. Her innocence clouds her ability to recognize Rick Hunter's growing infatuation with her. It is her singing which ultimately inspires many of the Zentraedi to defect, captivated by the message in her songs. Eventually, Minmei grows to accept her responsibility as a leader in the reconstruction plans of the Earth during the final stages of the First Robotech War.

Hence, SDF-1 return date based on this information: roughly January 2012

This figure is fully consistent with the timeline of the ROBOTECH novels by Jack McKinney (published in THE SENTINELS #5, "Rubicon", and ROBOTECH #18, "The End of the Circle"), and explains why The Macross Saga in the novels takes place over the span of time it does. However, this is contradictory to the figures presented in the TV series, which says the entire series takes place over roughly four years, with a two-year gap between episodes 27 and 28. Using "First Robotech War" as a stand-in term for the original SUPER DIMENSION FORTRESS MACROSS term "Space War I"--both referring to the war between the human race and the Zentraedi--the period referred to here, presumably episodes 28 through 36, would not be considered part of the First Robotech War. They serve as an epilogue to the conflict, but probably would not be classified as the "final stages" of it. After all, Khyron's campaign against the RDF in episodes 31 through 36 was more a series of terrorist actions than a full scale continuation of the war between mankind and the Zentraedi.
