Earth's Robotech Defense Force is called upon to defend their planet against the attacks of a merciless alien onslaught. Unfamiliar with the alien technology on board the SDF-1, Captain Gloval, the commander of the Battle Fortress inadvertantly blasts his giant ship, part of the Pacific Ocean and the entire surface of Macross Island into a deep space orbit near the planet Pluto. The Zentraedi follow, battling with the Micronians while the SDF-1 makes its way back to earth.
Eventually the SDF-1 returns, only to be cast adrift by the United Earth Government as a sacrificial lamb to appease the appetite of the Zentraedi. In time, the close contact with the day-to-day workings of Micronian society has an effect on the humorless Zentraedi. Civil unrest develops among the alien troops and mass desertion takes place. Dolza, the supreme ruler of the Zentraedi, makes a crucial decision which places the fate of the SDF-1 and the entire planet of earth in jeopardy.
The Robotech Masters, who are in need of the protoculture factory hidden on board the SDF-1, decide to take matters into their own hands and make the long journey to earth to finish the job started by their ineffective operatives, the Zentraedi.
This write-up appears on the divider page that starts off the Macross Saga section of the Robotech Style Guide. Not a letter has been changed from the original text. While there are no actual errors in this synopsis, there are some glaring omissions. Notice how the article fails to mention Macross Island, the SDF-1's initial resting place, until the island is being shot across the solar system; and how it also fails to mention the city housed within the SDF-1 which is the cause of the Zentraedi's contact with human society mentioned in the third paragraph. Also notice that the only two characters mentioned in the whole of the storyline rundown are Captain Gloval, Dolza, and the Masters--no Rick, no Lisa, no Breetai, and most interestingly, no Minmei.
