Absent-minded fool. That's just the sort of inattention that cost us our freedom and so many others their lives.

Unsung Heroes

Three-part back-up story / October 1997 - Feburary 1998 / Story by Brian Farrens

THE LOWDOWN

The Invid Regis is in control of planet Earth, but numerous small pockets of resistance still exist, desperately working towards the day when the human race stands free once again. This is the story of one such group, and their dangerous plan to solve their Protoculture fuel supply problems by engaging their foes in a life-threatening battle.

BACKGROUND INFO

This story arc was as much a surprise to me as the series it appeared in, though not as pleasant a surprise as the extremely manga-style Macross-era adventure it followed. Indeed, with extremely well-built and American-styled characters and stereotypical characters, it felt like someone decided to turn their nasty RPG campaign scenario into a three-part comic story and then had it drawn by someone used to drawing ripped DC Comics superheroes. The result seems way off--MOSPEADA as seen through a cocky superhero book filter.

If my hunch is correct, this story was produced in lieu of a painted MOSPEADA book that artist Joe Weltjens was going to do. This never-produced book was advertised in the back of the first issue of Antarctic's color Robotech anthology series, and its existence was later denied by Antarctic in the letter page of the same title. Unsung Heroes was preceded in Vermilion by a pretentiously-written "MOSPEADA Diary" covering the first half or so of Scott Bernard's journey to Reflex Point.
