Warriors

Mini-series / December 1994 - April 1995, December 1995 / Story by Bill Spangler

THE LOWDOWN

The Robotech scientist Zor is dead. The secrets of Protoculture, locked aboard his Super Dimensional Fortress, are lost. And without them, the Robotech Masters of Tirol will soon perish. With this knowledge, the Masters sent their genetically-engineered warrior giants, the Zentraedi, into the darkest reaches of space to track down and capture Zor's battlefortress.

Leading the expedition is Zentraedi commander Breetai Tul, whose fleet continues to traverse the cosmos, searching for the lost starship.

BACKGROUND INFO

As Academy Comics' run of Return to Macross began, writer Bill Spangler apparently decided that going back and forth between Breetai's expedition to discover the location of the SDF-1 and Roy Fokker's adventures on Macross Island was slowing the book down. Thus, in issue 15 of that title he put the "zero" issue of a new mini-series called Robotech Warriors on the flip-side. This series was going to be a self-contained story about Breetai and the Zentraedi fleet, possibly the first of many, picking up where the Return to Macross left off.

Following the success of the first Warriors story (which also contained a back-up story starring Miriya Parino), Spangler did a one-shot continuation called Metalswarm, which itself promised a further continuation that never came. This was at the end of 1995. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that other writing chores, such as Mechangel and the remainder of Return to Macross, prevented Spangler from doing any more Zentraedi fleet adventures.
